چکیده

The reactivities of monoand dihalocarbene anions (CHCl•−, CHBr•−, CF2•−, CCl2•−, and CBrCl•−) were studied using a tandem flowing afterglow-selected ion flow tube instrument. Reaction rate constants and product branching ratios are reported for the reactions of these carbene anions with six neutral reagents (CS2, COS, CO2, O2, CO, and N2O). These anionswere found to demonstrate diverse chemistry as illustrated by formation of multiple product ions and by the observed reaction trends. The reactions of CHCl•− and CHBr•− occur with similar efficiencies and reactivity patterns. Substitution of a Cl atom for an H atom to form CCl2•− and CBrCl•− decreases the rate constants; these two anions react with similar efficiencies and reactivity trends. The CF2•− anion displays remarkably different reactivity; these differences are discussed Carbene anion

Reactions of simple and peptidic alpha-carboxylate radical anions with dioxygen in the gas phase.

α-Carboxylate radical anions are potential reactive intermediates in the free radical oxidation of biological molecules (e.g., fatty acids, peptides and proteins). We have synthesised well-defined α-carboxylate radical anions in the gas phase by UV laser photolysis of halogenated precursors in an ion-trap mass spectrometer. Reactions of isolated acetate (˙CH(2)CO(2)(-)) and 1-carboxylatobutyl (...

The process window for diamond deposition from the vapor phase with sulfur in the C–H–O feed gas mixtures

Theoretical predictions using a modified radical species ternary diagram for C–H–O system indicate that addition of sulfur expands the C–H–O gas phase compositional window for diamond deposition. Sulfur addition to no-growth domain increases the carbon super-saturation by binding the oxygen and the addition of sulfur to the non-diamond domain reduces the heavy carbon super-saturation by decreas...

Gas-phase carbene radical anions: new mechanistic insights.

The gas-phase reactivity of the CHCl*- anion has been investigated with a series of halomethanes (CCl4, CHCl3, CH2Cl2, and CH3Cl) using a FA-SIFT instrument. Results show that this anion primarily reacts via substitution and by proton transfer. In addition, the reactions of CHCl*- with CHCl3 and CH2Cl2 form minor amounts of Cl2*- and Cl-. The isotopic distribution of these two products is consi...

Reactions of carbanions with triplet and singlet molecular oxygen.

The gas phase reactions of carbanions with molecular oxygen in both its ground state (X3 sigma g-) and first electronically excited state (a1 delta g) have been studied by the flowing afterglow technique. Reactions include cleavage processes, charge transfer, hydride transfer, formation of hydroxide ion and processes which involve secondary reactions within a long-lived complex. The mechanisms ...

Potential role of sulfur-containing antioxidant systems in highly oxidative environments.

All forms of life maintain a reducing environment (homeostasis) within their cells. Perturbations in the normal redox state can lead to an oxidative environment which has deleterious effects, especially in health. In biological systems, metabolic activities are dependent mainly on mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, a metabolic pathway that uses energy released by the oxidation of nutrient...
